I haven’t seen “Dickie” for many years, but he had been an extremely close friend to me and both of my late husbands, Bootie Cranford and Worry Smith,. in the years before their deaths. Although I never had the opportunity of personally meeting the family, “Maynard” and “Gracie” were so often mentioned by Dickie that they both became synonymous with him and I felt as if I had known the family for years. Being unable to reconnect with Dickie throughout these past years has weighed heavily on my mind, but the realization that my chance has slipped passed is a burden I now must bear. My heart goes out to Maynard, the entire family and the myriad of friends that were so easily drawn to Dickie. He was truly unique and a “one-of-a-kind” human being, and his personality colored my world with a spirit of adventure and an energetic laughter like none other. I am privileged to have had his friendship in my life and his memory will live with me forever. May God strengthen and quickly heal the pain of this loss for all. Sincerely, Nanci M. Mr. Ronald Dixon “Dickie” Joyce

Stoneville- Mr. Ronald Dixon “Dickie” Joyce, 67, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2015.

A 1:00 p.m. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Ray Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Randy Jessup officiating. Inurnment will follow at Buffalo Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery in Sandy Ridge.

A Rockingham County native, Dickie was born February 11, 1948, the son of Maynard Dixon Joyce and Gracie Smith Joyce. He was a 1966 graduate of Madison Mayodan High School and attended Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs. Dickie proudly served his country in the US Navy in the Vietnam War. He retired from Ponderosa Golf Course as a greens keeper. Dickie was a member of Mayodan First Baptist Church.

Dickie was preceded in death by his mother, Gracie Smith Joyce.

He is survived by his father, Maynard Dixon Joyce of Stoneville; sister, Nancy Joyce Miller of Williamsport MD; two nieces , Maggie McDaid and daughter Caroline of Williamsport, MD and Jennifer Lopp and husband Chuck of Glendale, AZ; nephew Josh McDaid and wife Brittany of Martinsburg, W.VA.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Saturday, March 28, 2015 and other times at the home of Maynard Joyce.
