I haven’t seen “Dickie” for many years, but he had been an extremely close friend to me and both of my late husbands, Bootie Cranford and Worry Smith,. in the years before their deaths. Although I never had the opportunity of personally meeting the family, “Maynard” and “Gracie” were so often mentioned by Dickie that they both became synonymous with him and I felt as if I had known the family for years. Being unable to reconnect with Dickie throughout these past years has weighed heavily on my mind, but the realization that my chance has slipped passed is a burden I now must bear. My heart goes out to Maynard, the entire family and the myriad of friends that were so easily drawn to Dickie. He was truly unique and a “one-of-a-kind” human being, and his personality colored my world with a spirit of adventure and an energetic laughter like none other. I am privileged to have had his friendship in my life and his memory will live with me forever. May God strengthen and quickly heal the pain of this loss for all. Sincerely, Nanci M. Lamb-Cranford-Smith
